I love the Resort Collections; they are quite small but highlight the most important trends for the coming season. These collections use to be called Cruise; they were a selection of clothes delivered to store before Christmas for those needing some new clothing before jet setting off on a holiday. Now the emphasis of Resort collections is on the commercial, so a wearable, season less selection of new product is designed for sale between Winter and Summer.

I spend hours reviewing each showing, so I can give my clients the best advice on where spend their dollar and how to incorporate trends in to their wardrobes. So what to invest in now that you’ll be able to wear later? There are four clear trends that are continuing from the Fall 2013 RTW catwalks to Resort 2014.

Sports Chic still continues and perhaps it is how this decade will be remembered? Bomber jackets, sweatshirts and cropped tops are still key but are updated in chic fabrications.

Black and white dominated in the collections, choose updated silhouettes to keep your look modern.

Mixed prints are still on the fashion radar; think graphic prints, stripes and florals.

Sheer continues but is being taken to another level. Longer lengths and higher necklines maintain elegance — not to mention a bit of integrity.
