Glasses

Glasses are the first thing that people see when they look at your face. They have the power to make an instantly fab or drab impression no matter what you’re wearing.

The first thing to consider is that you see your frames from the front, but everyone else sees them from all angles, therefore when you try them on its important to think in three dimensions… So, how to pick the perfect specs for you?

Your face shape & its features will impact the different elements of the glasses & as with dressing the body, your colouring & unique individual features may be more influential when choosing the most flattering pair for you.

If your facial features are rounded, look for a top bar that is more curved, some like it to match the line of their eyebrow. Whereas if you have angular features look for a frame that is squarer in shape.

Use the bridge to balance your facial features, in particular your nose. A lower bridge shortens your nose & if it’s not your favourite feature, it will draw attention away from this area. The bridge has the power to subtly change the position of your eyes too. A narrower bridge will make your eyes look closer together whereas a wider bridge will make your eyes look further apart.

Then consider your face shape,

  • An oval face shape is thought to be ideal because of its balanced proportions. To maintain the natural balance, look for frames that are as wide as the broadest part of the face.

  • A square face shape has a strong jaw and a broad forehead, the width and length of the face have roughly the same proportions. To visually lengthen & soften its angles, frames that have more width than depth, & narrow ovals are most flattering.

  • A round face shape has curved lines with the width & length being the same proportions. To make a round face appear thinner and longer, try angular narrow spectacle frames to visually lengthen the face.

  • A heart-shaped face has a wide top third and a narrow bottom third. Frame shapes that are wider at the bottom will visually reduce the width at the top of the face.

The colour of your glasses can make a huge difference to your overall look. When choosing a pair of frames, find a style that complements your complexion & works in harmony with your level of colour contrast.

Neutral frames are versatile, while coloured frames are great if you want to make a bit more of a statement. As a general rule, cool complexions are highlighted with blue undertones think, green, silver, or charcoal, whereas warm complexions, work best with yellow undertones, think brown, orange or bronze.

The size of the frame & temple should work in harmony with your scale but consider your style personality too. For example, a small scale silhouette would be overwhelmed in thick, chunky frames but if your style personality is dramatic then this style of spectacle may be fabulous for you!

Remember this accessory will be on high rotation, so make sure you find a pair that suits your style personality & makes you feel like you!
