Winter Hosiery

Whether you’re trying to maximise wardrobe wear, shopping for dresses, or thinking about special events in the winter the same question always emerges, what to do about bare legs when it’s cold? While everyone is different in how they feel about exposing their legs to the elements, here are my tips to help you feel confident this winter.

  • Ideally an opaque tight colour should match either your hemline, shoe colour or be repeated in your outfit.

  • A low denier opaque is easier to wear with bold colour as it won’t overpower your look.

  • If you want to visually lengthen your legs, match the tight tone to the colour of your shoes.

  • If you want to slim athletic calves, avoid light or bright coloured opaque tights as they will visually widen your legs. Wear dark coloured tights instead, think black, charcoal, navy, brown, dark green, etc.

  • Avoid printed tights where the pattern visually cuts the leg in two horizontal lines or with colourful transitions; this makes your legs shorter and wider.

  • Buy a good pair of sheer flesh toned pantyhose; without sheen. They keep your legs a bit warm when it’s cold outside & hide any imperfections that make you feel less confident.

  • Wear seamless tights with fitted dresses to prevent VTL, visible tight line.

  • There was a rule that the lighter the dress is, the thinner the tights should be, but more fashionistas are breaking this principle pairing silk dresses with opaque tights in winter.
