Update Your Look

This season, with all things Y2K trending, the waistcoat is back. The masculine cut vest, with its simple design and fitted silhouette, is the easiest way to update your wardrobe this season.

The trend was ignited last September when Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, and Celine sent a variety of waistcoat silhouettes down their Spring Summer runways and street style fashionistas of New York, London, Milan and Paris have quickly embraced the fashion.

So how do you style the waistcoat? They are being worn in so many ways… as an item piece or layered over shirts, roll necks, and dresses. But the key to getting this look right will be choosing a neckline that flatters your figure and using colour contrast to create a balanced look.

Pear shaped bodies have a smaller torso than bottom, so lighter waistcoats that define the waist are best.

Apple shaped bodies have lovely limbs but larger midsection, so wearing darker waistcoats with a deep v-neck is most flattering.

The hourglass & rectangle body shapes with a visually balanced silhouette can wear any colour but it's best to consider your vertical proportions. If you have short legs, wear a lighter waistcoat, if you’ve got long legs, wear a darker waistcoat.

Inverted triangle body shapes have broad shoulders or larger torsos with slender hips & legs, so darker v-neck waistcoat will visually balance your silhouette.
